8/5/2004 - Dampers
Dampers are generally used to control the air flow through duct work or from one area to another. The standard control damper is constructed of sheet metal and has parallel or opposed blades which work in unison as a damper actuator operates. They can be operated as two-position or modulated. In most cases dampers are selected to fit the duct size. However, when using modulating dampers it is desirable to have a pressure drop, by down sizing the damper to allow for better control modulation. Inherently there is some pressure drop due to the resistance created by the blades, linkages and frame.
